I was fired over 80 cents of time theft today

Been working at a warehouse for two months. Was fired today for time theft. My job uses Gusto app for time clock tracking. Upon arriving on the premises today, app was crashing and requesting

additional verification prior to punching in. I arrived at 8:34 AM. Punched in at 8:38, then did a correction for 8:34. Later in the day, I was pulled aside and fired for "time theft" which amounts to 79 cents,

this wasn't allowed -- other employees punch in the lobby, or in the elevator, or the parking lot. I have been pulling in great metrics for the company, and prior to this, I have been told I

complaints about the job, I really wanted to succeed. Appreciate any words of encouragement or insight as to why this might have happened..is 4 minutes really worth firing with no coaching?

My now former employer has been desperate and understaffed for months, so the sudden firing seems avoidable and very short sighted.
  • 11
Update: Boss responded to my and another former coworkers negative review with his own fluff piece. Click here to laugh at him.
  • 12
travellis They were going to fire you anyway. This just gave them a (stupid) reason to justify it.
  • 13
Bearsonthe405 OP Agreed. Seems like they were just waiting for a reason. It's just frustrating given my effort I gave every day was 120 percent and I was passionate about trying to do well. Sadly the lesson I'm learning here is there's no reason to give my all to my employer.

I was a referral hire from a friend, and I have a feeling they fired me because of their feelings for said friend, who didn't get along with the lead, and was struggling with performance. Unfair, but it is what it is.

Wearied Mite1987 Without knowing the whole story, I have this lingering feeling that somebody had ulterior motives to fire you. I've worked at companies that are so desperate and hard up for people that they let a lot of stuff go. Seems ridiculous to fire someone over an honest mistake like that.

MUDDY LanceDoesThings Terrible company, thankfully you're gone, new opportunities lay ahead! What state are you in?
  • 17
2 Bearsonthe405 OP Thank you so much, trying to be optimistic and see this as a blessing in disguise..I'm in Massachusetts on the border of New Hampshire. Min wage in my state is pretty high and I've been studying for different IT certifications, so hopefully this is only a temporary setback for me.

Fired over 80 cents update: Just a normal, awesome job, says my boss, giving himself glowing review.

5.0 Normal Small Business Operation Operations Manager (Current Employee) Having worked at for about a year, it's overall a pretty cool place to work. Like most fast growing businesses, there is a lot of change in how the operation works, but out of the 5 companies I've been at, it's the only one where entry-level employees have been able to contribute meaningfully to improving workflows and SOPs.
  • 20
Overall, the culture is really accommodating and positive for people that show up to work every day ready to work, and the management team wants to see people grow with the company. Dealing with constant change and improvement isn't a good fit for everyone, but it's a good place to work if you enjoy being able to innovate with a team.

Me and another coworker left our own honest but negative reviews on page following the company my being fired over some bogus stuff at the start of this week, dropping the rating to a 1.7 stars out of five. The goal wasn't to review , but make new potential hires aware of
  • 22
what they were getting into up front. Company boss saw this and I guess he thought the best response would be to claim the job is great! I guess I just wasn't looking to improve
  • 23
Not gonna lie, I laughed. This is embarrassing. Why would anyone trust the boss over the multiple negative reviews from the former employees from the position they're currently hiring for?
  • 24
Also, titling it "normal small business operation" read sus as ❤. Like a white van that says "NOT ' on the side. They're desperate, their new application asks for less experience than before and promises new 90 day bonuses that they didn't offer me when I was hired.

He shouldn't have said anything at all, it went up to 2.5 stars. Not even enough of an increase to look good. This is an update to my post from a couple of days ago on this subreddit, URL listed below, or just check my profile:

I want to thank absolutely everyone who commented or wrote kind words or advice, it was really validating and you have no idea how awesome it was to have the outpouring of support when I was in a dark moment in my head trying to

rationalize what had happened. Wasn't able to keep up with and respond to everyone, but I saw every comment and I want to give my appreciation to all of you. You guys are great.

20 Bearsonthe405 OP 6 days ago I absolutely agree. It felt to me like it was about something different than the four minutes. No idea what since my performance was good, but I figure it's not worth working for people who are so readily willing to lie to my face.

bertbert46 3 days ago I remember reading your original 80 cent post and thinking wow.... sounds like an awful place to work and that they were looking for any stupid excuse to let you go. But now seeing that, looks like you dodged at let working for a manager who is spending time writing fake reviews. I hope you are able to get unemployment benefits.
